Shawana Almendarez is a Charter Advisory Board member. The Advisory Board is tasked with offering strategic advice and guidance, ensuring decisions encompass a wide range of expertise and perspectives vital to the mission. Shawana, in her influential role, actively collaborates with the Executive Director and the Chair of the Board to pinpoint critical areas where the Advisory Board's expertise is paramount. These areas include strategic planning, policy development, and significant organizational initiatives.

Work Beyond JFAP

Shawana is the owner of NC Paralegal Consulting Services. Presently working as the Employment and Compliance Paralegal for a Fortune 500 company in Charlotte, NC.

A lady of many capacities, she dutifully serves North Carolina communities as a Notary Public, and a child custody advocate for the Council for Children’s Rights.

Shawana has a demonstrated history of case management working in state and local government administrations. She served the Mecklenburg County community as an Absolute Divorce Clinic facilitator for the 26th Judicial District’s Self-Serve Center, and worked as a Family Court Case Coordinator.

She has volunteered in a variety of pro bono statewide projects. Her skill set includes
coaching, consulting, team building, and legal research.

She is also an event planner, grant writer, mentor, and trainer. In 2015, Shawana joined the North Carolina Bar Association’s Paralegal Division. She has served the Paralegal Division as Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer.
